What can a union do for us?
Unionization provides a way for us to make sure that the company managers and executives hear our concerns and do something to help.
How do I sign up and how does it start?
You’ll fill out our interest form and once we get 30% of employees approving of the union (IAFF or Teamsters), the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will hold an official vote open to all employees where a majority must approve of the union.
I thought we weren’t allowed to join a union?
That would be illegal! Many people believe they had to sign a contract with Gold Cross saying we wouldn’t join a union, but that would be considered a violation federal labor laws. The confusion stems from Gold Cross having us sign an acknowledgement that no complete strike, walkout, or sickout is allowed as we are essential services.
However, with the passing of HB267 and the recent shake-up to federal institutions, our right to unionize is under attack and may change drastically. It is vital that we work to establish better treatment for ourselves now before lose the opportunity to with such protections.
What issues would a union press?
Better benefits, pay/raises, safety practices, training, and equipment seem to be the main concerns, but if you have any specific ideas we’d love to hear about them here!
Why am I required to sign in with google and leave a phone number?
NLRB regulations state that in order for electronic signatures to count, we have to obtain this contact info and verify the account owner was the one who signed the form. Google forms simply provides this easily.
